If you’re ready to start journaling but are struggling with a case of writer’s block, here are some quick prompts to get the juices flowing:

- What I’m looking forward to today
- What I wish had been different about yesterday
- The most important thing for today
- That crazy thing that just happened and how I feel about it
- What I wish I had some help with
- What I really need right now
- What I wish person X understood
- What I wish I understood
- The qualities I want to exemplify today
- I’m so pissed off about…
- Tough things I’ve overcome recently
- Reasons I’m proud of myself
- If I could wave a magic wand, I’d do/try/have…
- What I’m really wanting is…
- I’m afraid if I don’t ___, then I’ll ___
- Things I’m learning about ___
- What’s driving my need to ___
- What I’m uncertain about

There’s no right or wrong way to journal. No magic formula. I suggest a daily cadence of at least a few pages, but you can tweak this to something you can reliably stick to.
The important thing is to open up the floodgates and just see what pours out. You are an entire human with 86,400 seconds of experience, feelings, and thoughts per day. Trust me, you’ve got plenty of material.
If you’re really still feeling stuck, I recommend the book The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. It’s uplifting, compassionate, and will open up a whole new way to connect with yourself.
